Seasonal Allergies- Yes, Your Pet Can Get Them Too!

Itchy eyes, runny nose, coughing, and sneezing!

Yes, spring has sprung, and so have the joys of seasonal allergies.

If these symptoms sound familiar to you, they might also be familiar to your pet! Unfortunately Misty and Rufus may be feeling the woes of seasonal allergies alongside you.

Some more symptoms of seasonal allergies in cats and dogs are:

  • Itchy, dry skin
  • Frequent scratching, (which may cause sores around the face and inside of the ears)
  • Red, swollen eyes
  • Runny nose
  • Fits of sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Lethargy

While most allergy symptoms can safely be treated at home using generic allergy medication such as Benadryl, it is best to seek out the professional advice of a Veterinarian before administering medication to your furry friends!

There are also great non-medical methods to help your pet feel comfortable:

  • Fatty acid supplements, to help soothe itchy and irritated skin
  • Regular bathing with hypoallergenic and/or oatmeal shampoo
  • Limit time spent outside if a serious flare-up occurs

No matter what method works best for you, we hope your pet is back to wanting extra belly scratches for pleasure — not allergy relief — in no time!
